Happy 22nd Anniversary to Sally Reps. Anniversaries are funny things—lines in the sand, rings in a tree, dates on a calendar. This week marks the Sally Reps 22nd Anniversary. It feels like a blink of an eye, until I see my reflection on a zoom call. Twenty-two years ago, I was three months pregnant with my son when the dot com world imploded. As a result, I lost my cushy corporate advertising job. So, I decided to take some time off to have my baby and rethink my career. Within a week of my newfound joblessness a photographer I had worked with in my past called to ask if I would consider representing her. On a whim I said yes and within a month I was representing five photographers and two stylists. Six months later, on the way to the hospital to give birth to my son, l signed my first catalog client who I still work with today. Being an agent was never a career I aspired to, a gallery owner maybe, but a commercial artist agent? Never even crossed my mind. My career found me.
In these 2+ decades I have seen a lot of change in the commercial photography and advertising industry—most due to the developments in technology, a volatile economy and of course the pandemic. But with the changes many things have stayed the same. From day one, I have partnered with committed artists who are hardworking entrepreneurs. I am not their boss, and they are not mine. We are true collaborators and business partners. We ride the hard times and celebrate the great times together. I love the people I represent and find great joy in coaching, collaborating, and laughing with them. The other thing that has stayed the same is our amazing group of clients, many who have become great friends, and advocates. To say I am spilling over with gratitude would be an understatement. It is a “people business” and I am surrounded by creative, smart, and honest individuals. It’s been a great run so far and we are still going strong. Today SallyReps includes video, photography, styling, and post-production talent. If you are looking for creative talent for your next production, please consider my team at www.sallyreps.com. Happy Anniversary and thanks to all the artists, freelancers, agencies, and clients I have had the privilege to work with over the years! Keep on Keepin’ On, and may every artist be given the opportunity to push creative boundaries and get paid for it!
